The Hernando County School District is a fully accredited public school system proudly serving students and families on Central Florida’s scenic Gulf Coast. As a cornerstone of our community, we educate and support more than 22,000 students across a diverse range of schools and programs — from early learning through high school graduation and beyond.
We are the largest employer in Hernando County, with nearly 3,000 dedicated professionals — from teachers and administrators to support staff — all focused on helping every student thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our School Board
The Hernando County School Board consists of five members. Each of these members is required to reside within the district from which he or she is elected. The Board elects its chairperson and vice chairperson annually.
The current Chairperson is Shannon Rodriguez and the Vice Chairperson is Mark Johnson.
